To the Pro-Lifers (An Internal Memo)

While it is not required to be pro-life to read the following message, it will be far more relevant to you if you are.  While there are very sincere Christians that are “pro-choice” (as remarkable as that sounds), this message is intended mostly for those of the church and the more politically conservative among us who are pro-life.  Since I assume people in both camps read this blog or stumble across it, this becomes a very necessary post.

Good day to you:

I hope this message find you well, and that you will find success in your endeavors to undermine the political foundation of abortion in your respective states.  As a politically conscious individual and fellow pro-lifer, I am writing this message to you in hopes that the issue addressed within will be irrelevant to you.  If, however, this letter comes as a surprise to you, I hope that you will hear it in the spirit that it is offered.

It seems that in large part, the church has lost its identity in the fight over abortion and other various social issues.  I understand the need for legislative morality, and like any red-blooded, patriotic, conservative American, I have a desire to see America return to the moral foundations upon which it was birthed.  However, it is in the fight for the return to these values that the church in America has lost its identity as the church.  As necessary as the fight for righteousness is, the loss of identity is just as egregious, if not more.  So what identity has the church lost?

The church was founded on the premise of safeguarding the revelation of God in the person of Jesus Christ, unto the salvation of Israel and the return of Jesus to the earth.  Israel was originally selected to lead the nations to God in response to man’s sin in the Garden.  When Israel broke the covenant of God, God sent His own Son to the earth to call a people that would lead Israel back to their mandate.  To say it another way, the church is designed to be the light to the light of the nations.  As Israel wandered astray from the law and revelation of God when they acheived prosperity, it seems that the church has the exact same and is in danger of dropping the ball entirely.  While many of us will stand and say that the Nations should not pressure Israel to give up their land to the muslims, or that abortion should end, or that gay-marriage shouldn’t be legal, much of the church in the west can’t give a logical defense of the divinity of Christ or an accurate protrayal of why the Cross is not actually in conflict with Old Testament Eschatology.  The church has betrayed the doctrine of orthodoxy for the sake of political stances that, while noble, are not the primary concern of Scripture.

The problem is that all of the political stances are necessary, if they are done for the right reasons.  For our specific context, I will focus on the Pro-Life movement.  The question to be asked is why the pro-life movement is important and necessary.  Some would point to prophetic messages declaring judgment for the guilt of bloodshed.  However, I dare say that there is more to it than just that.  In the United States, we watch movies of actors pretending to be killed in odd ways.  On the other hand, in the Roman Empire, they would fill the Colliseum to watch real men slaughter each other and be fed to animals…  I dare say we have not reached that point yet.  So why the Pro-life movement?

The answer?  Christology.  Think about this… when Moses was being born, Pharoah had passed a law that the Hebrew slaves were to kill all of their newborn boys.  Moses’ mother, being a bit of a feisty one, decided to float the kid down the river, thus saving his life, defying the law, and sealing the deliverance of Israel all in one shot.  Flash forward 1500 years and you come to the time of Jesus being born.  The Son of God comes down from Heaven to save all of humanity, and immediately after being born has his life threatened by the Mandatory Infanticide of Herod the “Great”.  Once again, we see a law that is encouraging the destruction of a generation, and we have to consider that there is a pattern developing.

If we believe that we are in the end-times (and thus in the time of another deliverer), the pro-life movement is about more than saving innocent lives.  It is about fulfilling the apostolic role of the church to call forth the next generation that will ultimately herald the return of Christ.  Without this forward-looking view of Eschatological Christology, the pro-life movement becomes relegated to the place of merely trying to stop people from killing each other so that we can evolve into a utopian society where the circle of life is not hindered by man’s stupidity.  Without a Christological foundation, the pro-life movement is little more than humanism wearing a cloak of morality.  As a dedicated pro-life voter, I tell you that you are empowered to stand outside of clinics with red duct tape over your mouth until your knees give way… but unless you are doing it with an understanding of why, you will accomplish little other than making your feet sore.

If you want to see abortion end, lean into the place of prayer and the study of Christology.  It is the understanding of the person and work of Christ that gives meaning to the protests, petitions, and the bills… without that understanding, we are no better than the atheist who wants to see people “be nicer to each other”.  How much more effort will we put into our protests if we understand that we are calling forth tomorrow’s apostles, prophets, and forerunners?  How much more weight will our words carry if they are tinged with the expectation that that unborn baby is going to be responsible for the return of Christ?  At the end of the age, the Spirit and the Bride will cry come… but the Bride must first cry for her children.

Grace and Peace to you, dear reader.  May God bless your efforts and hear your prayers.  Even so, come Lord Jesus.

No podemos quedarnos callados.

In other words, it is a martial law directive. On May 10, 2007, The Washington Post characterized NSPD-51 is a “shadow government” directive.

Paragraph 1076
Einsatz der Streitkräfte
bei grösseren öffentlichen Notfällen
(a) Der Einsatz der Streitkräfte wird genehmigt
(1) allgemein ?

Update On Star Wars Scientist

Apparently, the guy I mentioned a couple of days back, the NASA engineer who was arrested for espionage activities…he actually thought he was already working as a spy for the Mossad:

According to the transcript of Mr. Nozette’s conversation with the undercover officer posing as a Mossad recruiter, the scientist said:

“I thought I was working for you [Mossad] already.  I mean that’s what I always thought…”

I guess rocket scientists make their own share of mistakes…

Another thing of note: apparently, most spies tend to be in their 50’s:

…one of the rules of thumb is that most of our clients tend to be in their fifties, and he’s in his fifties. But if you look at Aldrich Ames and Robert Hanssen, Jonathan Pollard, they were all in that age group, and there’s a sort of mid-life crisis that occurs, where some men have sexual affairs and some have spying fantasies.

Sure, why not? Sean Connery was playing James Bond well into his mid-30’s.

Obama Worshiping TV and Newspapers Forgot Their Job

I must offer thanks to those readers that have been trashing the Glenn Beck show the last several months. As I previously stated I just had not really managed to catch his show very often, once he moved from CNN to Fox News. All the Beck Internet animosity I started to read really stirred up my curiosity.  He is awesome and talking points I have been saying for years. Meanwhile Team Barack Obama has been on the National News talk shows and their Internet web sites attacking Fox News, mostly because of Beck’s show I am sure.  How very Richard Nixon-like of Team Obama. Beck has went so far as installing a not line telephone system available only to the White House individual Anita Dunn, that  Team Obama has watching the Glenn Beck program for errors, so that they can call him to help Beck correct any Obama errors he might make in his reporting. (We -the citizens of the US- are paying huge cash  for some Obama crony to watch TV! ) They have yet to call to my knowledge.

I do have to admit I have to  feel deeply embarrassed for the mainstream media after I started making time to watch Beck’s show whenever possible. I have been saying that television and newspaper media were too busy playing touchy-feely games with Obama from the start of his campaign. On a recent Glenn Beck show he played a video that displayed a member of Team Obama boasting about just how well they have manipulated the media since they started their original campaign. It has to be extremely embarrassing for our “government watchdog” media to have this video become exposed. That is probably why I have not seen the Team Obama bragging rights video or even mentioned by any other meida source. It is bad enough to be bad at your job. It is even worse to find out you have been exploited by someone like Team Obama, that you worship like a God. But to have those facts public-wide exposed, by a rival you despise no less, has to be crippling to the professional ego.

The founding fathers of our nation felt it so important for the media to be a watchdog of our government that the press were given special mention in the first  amendment to our constitution –>in order to protect the freedom of our press. Now every President’s adminstration attempts to manipulate the media. But usually most of the media personnel and outlets have not bent their knees in worship to our government leadership- until now. You know I can understand  Team Obama’s frustration with certain members of Fox News. The rest of the news media have been rubber stamping whatever information the Whitehouse has handed out as if it were gospel. Like them or not- Fox News has not. And many of them are Obama friendly.

Now Glenn Beck does not call or even consider himself a journalist. He calls himself just another regular Joe that made it on TV, asking questions. Maybe that is why regular media sources hate and vilify Glenn Beck so much. How embarrassing for the rest of the so called “real” media -that a Regular Joe Libertarian Glenn Beck on the news media outlet they love to vilify as Conservative News, has been the only one actually doing their job – asking questions. Afterall, asking questions and seeking answers is the media’s constitutionally protected jobs.  Well at least for now. That is because  Team Obama has also loaded his administration with Hugo Chavez loving advisors like media advisor Mark Lloyd. And we all know just how much Marxist loving Chavez loves freedom of the press.

Restaurant Review: "Friendly's", West Hartford, Connecticut, USA.

(photo © kiwidutch)

After our bizarre Satellite Navigation Scenic Route arrival, we are at Friendly’s Restaurant in West Hartford, Connecticut.  Our friends who live in Pennsylvania love their local Friendly’s  so their kids are very excited about eating here tonight.

For the Kiwidutch Clan, this restaurant chain is unknown to us so we are going on another dining adventure.

We do have one dilemma, Mr. Four is seriously sleepy after his big day at the Children’s Museum, so we order a simple side order of a  few vegetables and add a sausage to it for him and ask the Staff  if it might be at all possible to get it some extra  attention in the kitchen so that it might   arrive before he gets too impossibly tired to eat it. They assure us that they will look into it…

Famous Last Words… after 25 minutes Mr. Four is snuggling up on his Papa’s lap  in pre-sleep mode so I go up to the kitchen/reception and ask nicely if his Child’s meal is anywhere in sight…  again, they say they will look into it.

Almost 20 minutes later food starts arriving on the table, to my consternation Mr. Four’s meal is still nowhere in sight even as the other kids meals have been served.  So much for trying their hardest to help us out. The Little Man himself has in the few last minutes  totally lost his battle with wakefulness and is now asleep on his Father’s shoulder… luckily there is a bench seat right next to us and the restaurant is now more than 80% empty so he sleeps stretched out there as the rest of us eat.

Kid number one has “Cheeseburger Sliders” … mini cheeseburgers served with waffle fries, pickle chips, mustard and ketchup.

Kid number two goes for “Dippin’ Chicken”… Chicken fingers with honey mustard, ketchup and BBQ sauce, with fries or side…

(photo © kiwidutch)

Kid number two follows up the main course with a ” Build your own Vol-Cone-O Sundae”  for dessert… before and after shots of the decorating process…

(photo © kiwidutch)

(photo © kiwidutch)

I order the Chicken Strips Basket…

(photo © kiwidutch)

One of our friends orders the Clamboat Basket…

(photo © kiwidutch)

The other orders New England Fish ‘n Chips…

Hubby goes for a Buffalo Bleu Burger

Forbidden Chocolate Sundae for dessert…

Everyone is  starving  and so pleased to finially eat, but in the end I have to be honest  and say that this meal wasn’t particularly wonderful…. it’s  fairly much bog standard food, ok but not outstanding in any particular way. More a “fill-a-gap” meal.

I was also disappointed with the fact that  although we arrived after the usual meal time rush hour, and the restaurant is vastly more empty than full,  it has taken  45 minutes for food to arrive, and that a small and hopefully simple  request to staff for one  single side order of vegetables with a sausage on the side  for a very tired little boy could not be delivered for closer to 50 minutes.

The poor poppet  just couldn’t hold out that long so went to sleep hungry and I feel bad for him. How long should it take to make the meal in the following photo? surely not 50 minutes. ( The missing segment of sausage was eaten by the 1 year old in our party who has been sleeping all afternoon and was wide awake in the restaurant)

(photo © kiwidutch)

My daughter ordered a dessert thinking that it  had chocolate cookies,  but it was in fact peanut butter cookies… both my kids detest peanuts and peanut butter  with a vengeance so once she has tasted the first bite and realised this fact, she is in tears with disappointment. Then she discovers the icecream flavour is a different flavout than she thought too. We are not great consumers of  ice-cream so my kids are very much  into the the simple basic, ” vanilla/strawberry/chocolate ” varieties, pistachio or whatever other flavour it was, was a step too radical for her…

(photo © kiwidutch)

Himself  gallantly come to her rescue offering to eat  her dessert or her,  while I go to the front desk and order a small single scoop  ice-cream in a cone to replace her ice-cream  mis-selection…. the lady looks puzzled since she has just delivered a dessert for said kid… I explain our predicament  and she cheerfully hands me the small cone and tells me it’s on the house.

I must say that this last action tipped the balance between this place getting a tip or no tip tonight. For so-so-ish food and ridiculous slowness during a non busy time of service,  and seemingly indifferent staff, I was getting ready to forget the tip and give the place a very low rating indeed. The small act of kindness showed to my daughter made up somewhat  for the fact that  my poor son missed out on a meal completely and showed me that maybe tonight’s blunders were more the fault of the kitchen than of the serving staff.

We left a modest tip as a compromise and our friends assured us that their local Friendly’s usually served them inside 15 minutes and the food was better too.  They did laughingly mention one point..” we go to a Friendly’s more for the ice-cream than for the meals” .. . it was a very telling remark… now that I have evaluated the food, I think it shows and that they are right.

I’d rate this Friendly’s a 4 out of 10 for food and probably a 6/10 for the ice-cream, if they hadn’t gone the extra mile on Daughters dessert I think I would have been tougher and given it a 3 out of 10.

Since our friends love their local outlet, I don’t wish to tar all member’s of a Restaurant chain with the same brush, but I will say that I think this particular Friendly’s let’s the side down.

Another small consolation is that at least we don’t take the long way home.. the small distance  back to our hotel is covered in a few minutes and our soundly sleeping boy is transfered to his bed…

Let's Strengthen President Obama's Values - Congralulations for the Nobel Peace Prize‏

(NGS) On behalf of millions of Voiceless people, voice for Voiceless congratulates President Barak Obama for winning 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. It is great honor for his vision, intentions, drive and work.

The prize always comes with greater responsibilities. The “PEACE” has noble meaning and it can only achieve through unbiased dedication. We wish him all success in his endeavor towards world with equal rights, justice, and peace.  We also wish, President will stick to his principles of, “THE VALUES SHOULD DRIVE THE POLITICS”, not the other way around. In this dynamic, highly politicized, highly influenced world, sticking with the basic principles is very challenging. It can not be achieved by ONE PERSON ALONE. We need a broader support from all sorts of people from all sorts of professions and institutions.

Let’s us all strengthen President’s vision and values. ONLY TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE THIS WORLD.  That is the only way we can provide a meaning to this Prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.

We hope and wish President Obama will be one of the LOUDEST VOICE FOR “VOICELESS PEOPLE”.

I Brasilien förekommer korruption.

RISING SEA LEVELS EASY TO IGNORE

Rising seas could be the new normal. They could continue to intrude into freshwater aquifers, ruining drinking water supplies. They could fill drainage systems, leaving nowhere for the storm water to go, especially during high tides. Sarasota County mentioned the issue in its 2007 comprehensive growth plan, adding rising seas as a variable, it has mapped out areas vulnerable to hurricane surges. Mote’s Marine Policy Institute hopes to spur more connections between a rising sea level and public policy.

Death penalty for neo-Nazi sought by Ohio

WASHINGTON – Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray urged the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday to clear the way for the execution of a self-described neo-Nazi convicted in 1983 of murdering three people at Cleveland State University.

Appearing before the nine justices, Mr. Cordray asked the high court to overturn a decision last year by a federal appeals court in Ohio that had set aside the death penalty for Frank Spisak, Jr., 58.

Spisak is being held at the Mansfield Correctional Institution.

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the trial judge incorrectly told jurors during the sentencing hearing that they had to unanimously turn down the death penalty before they could consider a life sentence.

The court of appeals ruled that prevented individual jurors from considering whether Spisak was so insane he should serve a life sentence instead.

In addition, the court of appeals ruled that Tom Shaughnessy, Spisak’s original defense attorney, provided an ineffective defense when, during closing arguments of the sentencing phase, he told jurors that “when you turn and look at Frank Spisak, don’t look for good deeds, because he has done none. Don’t look for good thoughts because he has none. He is sick, he is twisted.”

But Mr. Cordray contended that although Mr. Shaughnessy, who died in 1997, did not make a “perfect” closing argument, he was trying to persuade the jury to give Spisak a life sentence.

Spisak wore an Adolf Hitler-style mustache at trial, gave the Nazi salute, and boasted of his hatred of African-Americans and Jews.

Spisak also has sued state officials because prison officials refuse to refer to him as a woman, as he prefers.

The justices seemed incredulous that the trial judge had rejected an insanity defense. Justice Stephen Breyer said Spisak “sounds like he was a little bonkers,” adding that Mr. Shaughnessy appeared to be telling the jurors that “we don’t execute guys who are crazy and this guy is crazy.”

But at least three of the justices indicated they were appalled by Mr. Shaughnessy’s closing argument.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg characterized it as “disjointed,” while new Justice Sonia Sotomayor complained that it was “no defense whatsoever.”

Toadstool golf ball shirts on zazzle

Last week i designed some  shirts featuring a macro photo I took last year of a globe shaped, immature yellowish orange mushroom speckled with warts ALL over the cap. Resembling a a cross between a sesame seed hamburger bun and a golf ball, this poisonous mushroom is surrounded by grass covered in beads of morning dew. whenever I look at this photo it reminds me of  a golf ball on a tee in the grass, so I put is on some shirts with various golf related slogans.

Canadian Chronicles

So I said goodbye to New England (and my wonderful friends *sob sob*) on yet another beautiful day, flew out of Boston Logan International heading for Seattle via Minneapolis/St Paul.  About 20 minutes into the flight we hit a patch of the worst ‘rough air’ I’ve ever experienced .  I don’t take many short haul flights so maybe I’m just unused to Airbuses and their lower buffer zone or whatever the hell it is but whoa that was some serious bounce.  At first I just gripped the seat and waited for it to pass but after an hour of solid brain rattling my nerves were pretty frayed and I found myself having a giant panic attack.  However many miles above one of the great lakes.  Not just a rational ‘I don’t want to die alone in a burning wreckage somewhere in the Midwest’ panic attack, although obviously that crossed my mind once or twice.  No, a full blown ‘oh my God what have I done with my life sobbing into my free cookie panic attack’.  By the time I landed in the twin cities with swollen eyes and a racing pulse I was ready to walk back to New York and take a boat home.  Never was I entering any kind of aircraft in my life, never again, never ever!  Luckily for me, my feet and probably my sanity I remembered the stash of Valium I’d left untouched since my second night in New York (used to sleep through 5 Mexican hipsters singing Bruce Springsteen in the room next door).  Made my way through the maze that is Mpls/St Paul airport and managed to force myself onto the flight to Seattle.  This time not an ounce of bounce and a larger plane meant that I made it to SeaTac in one piece.

From SeaTac I boarded the Quick Shuttle bus to Vancouver and got my first taste of the Pacific Northwest, drove through Seattle at dusk and then straight up to the border.  The bus was almost empty so I figured that customs would be a fairly speedy process.  More fool me.  After being ushered into a secure area with one other guy, a Chinese man who spoke barely any English, I watched from behind a locked door at the rest of the passengers happily boarded the bus.  The Chinese guy went first, once they found a translator it was apparent he was violating the terms of his permanent residency in Canada by spending 90% of his time in China.  Nothing to do with, except that I was stuck behind him in the queue and the Quick Shuttle bus was threatening to leave with out me.  Bearing in mind it’s 9.30pm, the last bus, I’m in the middle of nowhere, on my own being glared at my two security guard and the border patrol who seemed to think I was up to no good just by being there.  Just at the moment I was about to go into full meltdown, after my earlier experiences I was already edgy and soooo tired, she remembered to ask me what I needed.  A stamp on my passport, a tiny stamp not a full interrogation or deportation.  Five seconds later and I’m back on the bus, 20 minutes later I’m at vancouver airport with my friend Cherry and her boyfriend Matthew, an hour later I’m eating healthy food at the Naam, my first since I arrived in the USA and I’m so fucking happy it’s unreal.  I’ve never been so pleased to see a glass of wine or a chickpea.  Anyway, 16 hours of solid travel later and I was in Canada, hooray.

My friends live in an awesome part of the city, right by the beach and with views of the mountains.  My first real taste of Vancouver the next morning was a walk along the beach after a Canadian sized breakfast.  It took me approximately 5 minutes to fall in love.

It’s been a long time since I spent any time with Cherry so it was really great to just hang out with her and be taken to various amazing restaurants, cafes and eating establishments.  Both Cherry and I like food (in a nice ladylike way of course) and luckily Vancouver ain’t too shabby in that department so much of my trip was arranged around where to eat, some of my favorites were The Eatery, Sophie’s Cosmic Cafe, The Templeton Diner, Finch’s Tea & Coffee House, Steeps, Hapa Izakaya (where I was allergic to nearly everything but finally had the most amaaaaazing prawns and discovered my new favorite cocktail) and last but not least La Casa Gelato.  La Casa Gelato or the International Ice Cream Factory sells 218 varieties of ice cream and sorbetto in a staggering selection of flavours, curry ice cream anyone?  I had the granny smith apple and lemon raspberry sorbet, divine.

We took a day trip to Whistler where my tiny British mind was blown by the British Columbia scenery.  Talk about epic and giant and everything I expected yet more, more, more.  Already snow on the mountain tops adding to the drama and my jaw dropping in the back seat.  I don’t think anything I say or pictures will do it justice.

Bye, bye Vancouver I’ll miss you but I’m pretty sure I’ll be back! ♥

P.S I’ve had some WordPress issues hence the long overdue update!!

Is it dead or alive

I caught this picture of a lady Rhinoceros at Lincoln Park zoo on Saturday.

She’s normally quite sprightly wandering around munching stuff so I was surprised to catch her in this thoughtful or rather completely zonked out frame of mind. She looks kind-of cut for a beast who would step on your rather than bother with you.

Tired lady Rhino - Lincoln Park Zoo

Is she lonely, bored or just plain tired. Do Rhino’s need chums? I am always torn with Zoo’s i.e. on whether they are a good thing or not. From a conservation perspective and for smaller animals I can see the sense, abd I do enjoy them, but for big hulking animals like a Rhino with a small area and the three lions I often wonder if it is right. I may have mentioned this before, I know the zoo does good work, but having a big cat house where the cats have very little space doesn’t seem right. I remember the saddest cat house I ever say was at Frankfurt Zoo about 15 years ago, I hope they have upgraded it since then.

The Culture Of Throwing Shoes!!!

Shoe is a lethal weapon. Surprisingly, this weapon was not invented rather discovered in the olden days of George Bush the second (ass). The weapon was first used by Muntazir al Zaidi against his arch enemy, the monkeyman, “the ass”. Soon after, this weapon became very popular and the temptation to use it grew day by day.

The greatest thing about this lethal weapon is that this weapon does not physically harm your enemy but he will surly get some mental shocks. This mental illness will last for long. The most amazing thing about this weapon is that this weapon is used in public and in front of media. With this method, you can inflect greatest of insult to your enemy.

Since this weapon does not cost millions and because of its ease of use, you do not need any formal training. This is the very reason of its great popularity.Muntazir will be excited as he did not find himself alone in this war against their enemies. Since the day he started his war against his enemy, many followed. Many world leader, politicians and heads of controversial  financial institutions are the victims. After Ass the second, the episode continued and more and more people were mentally harmed. Chinese PM, Indian Foreign Minister and a couple of more Indian politicians, heads of some financial institutions and the latest victim was some IMF head who was insulted in Turkey by a young man.

But the latest of it all happened in Pakistan. A student of Karachi University threw his shoe on a professor from USA. But this was the first time that this thing happened in an education institution. Muntazir’s wing has penetrated even the educational institutions:P.

Should I feel proud that this thing happened in my country? And should I also feel proud that we have started insulting our guests? I don’t think so. If it had happened to a politician whether it be an American politician or a Pakistani, rather hitting a  Paki politician with a shoe would satisfy my internal evils more . “App samajh tu gae hoon gay main kiss ke baat ker raha hoon? “

But what happened in KU, is insulting. KU is an educational institution, and that man was a professor and he was our guest. Well, he was a teacher after all. This is not what our religion, ethics, values and our tradition teach us.

The most embarrassing  thing of all was that our media, as usual, looked like defending that student. This is the most simple way of getting popular. That student had no reason to throw shoe at a professor. Having arguments with your professor and running out of rational thoughts does not mean that you start fighting with him. While listening to his statement on media, he defended himself and called it as an act which is in favour of Pakistan and that he represented the feelings of all Pakistanis. Further he said that he should not be punished and asked for the support of all student organisations.

I simply have three word (and three star) answer , What the F***. This is hilarious and most stupid act. This means that, whenever I find a “Gora” on the street I should start throwing shoes at him, get caught, call the media and defend my act and prove it as an act that is beneficial for all and lastly I should say that I represented the feelings of the whole nation. What do I get in return, lots and lots of attention and cheap popularity. My “bache” will be so proud of me.

My only concern was that our electronic media should behave in a sensible manner and if they are so eager to listen to the shoe thrower’s stance, they must also ask him some questions like how his cheap act will help Pakistan in making its image better?

Please comment, I want listen what other say.

Tweedledee and Tweedledum… “Liturgical Fundamentalism”, Indeed!

There are many solid and cogent reasons for one to believe that St Vladimir’s Theological Seminary (SVS, for short) in Yonkers NY is an incoherent and moribund institution. For instance, there appears to be an institutional tolerance of perversion if one holds the “proper” theological opinions, which was illustrated, sadly, by the sexual assault of an SVS faculty member against Eric Iliff, an assault that led to Mr Iliff’s tragic suicide (one wonders if John Behr was hired in order to try and burnish their image after this event).

We shall confine ourselves to one facet of this degeneration, only. Two faculty members, Paul Meyendorff and Bradley Nassif, hold an interesting theological opinion. Anyone who disagrees with their modernist notions on liturgical theology is labelled a “liturgical fundamentalist”. What does this mean? Well… I am not bereft of experience in reading the Fathers. I have NEVER seen this construction in ANY Patristic writing. As my knowledge of the Fathers is slight, relatively speaking (although much wider than that of the konvertsy who continually bloviate on the subject), I decided to ask those who are better suited, through their education and erudition, a simple question, “Is the term ‘liturgical fundamentalist’ Orthodox… that is, does it have a grounding in Patristics, Scripture, or Tradition?”

There is a “short answer”, friends and neighbours. The terms fundamentalist and fundamentalism are not Orthodox theological terms and we should avoid their use at all costs, as these constructions do not have definite, fixed, and objective definitions. Basically, these are “weasel words” used by those on the Theological Left to describe their opponents, nothing more. That is to say, they are nothing but empty words of opprobrium and censure, windy ways of labelling someone or something in a pejorative fashion. Theological Liberals mean to say that someone is “extreme” and/or “narrow” when they use such language, but, current taboos of the pseudo-intellectual Left forbid these usages. As SVS falls within this milieu, not that of Lived Orthodoxy, is it any surprise that its faculty would use terms current amongst Godless Secularists rather than Orthodox Christians?

We see fundamentalism misused at every possible juncture. There are Muslim “fundamentalists”, Protestant “fundamentalists”, and even (according to Messrs Meyendorff and Nassif, two great authorities, wot?) Orthodox “fundamentalists”. Then, what IS fundamentalism? Properly speaking, Fundamentalism refers only to an intellectual movement within Calvinistic Protestantism, one that arose in the early-20th-century in opposition to Modernism. Alright… what IS Fundamentalism? It has five basic principles, often labelled “The Fundamentals”:

  • The inspiration of the Bible by the Holy Spirit and the inerrancy of Scripture as a result of this
  • The virgin birth of Christ
  • The belief that Christ’s death was the atonement for sin
  • The bodily resurrection of Christ
  • The historical reality of Christ’s miracles

I sent this list to an acquaintance who is an Orthodox theologian with the simple request, “Are these five points Orthodox, and, if not, why not?” The answer was stunning in its simplicity… “These points can be subscribed to fully by an Orthodox Christian, with the understanding that the Church’s comprehension of them is different from that of classical Protestantism”. Furthermore, he said kind words regarding J. Gresham Machen (1881-1936), the main spokesman of the actual Fundamentalists. “If all Protestants were as literate, perceptive, and compassionate as the late Professor Machen, our relations with them would be far more cordial”. I find myself in total agreement with both statements, needless to say. As a final note, the classical Fundamentalists decried a literalistic reading of the Scripture, contrary to the false notion that has been spread abroad through the dishonest statements of theological Modernists.

Then, what is the false, misleading and mischievous definition of “fundamentalism” as is used by the stalwarts at SVS (and other Theological Liberal institutions)? Here is a cut-and-paste from Wikipedia:

The pattern of the conflict between Fundamentalism and Modernism in Protestant Christianity has parallels in other religious communities, and in its use as a description of these corresponding aspects in otherwise diverse religious movements the term “fundamentalist” has become more than only a term either of self-description or of derogatory contempt. Fundamentalism is, therefore, a movement through which its adherents attempt to rescue religious identity from absorption into modern, Western culture, where this absorption appears to the enclave to have made irreversible progress in the wider religious community, necessitating the assertion of a separate identity based upon the fundamental or founding principles of the religion.

This formation of a separate identity is deemed necessary due to a perception that the religious community has surrendered its ability to define itself in religious terms. The ‘fundamentals” of the religion have been jettisoned by neglect, lost through compromise and inattention, so that the general religious community’s explanation of itself appears to the separatist to be in terms that are completely alien and fundamentally hostile to the religion itself.

Some fundamentalist movements, therefore, claim to be founded upon the same religious principles as the larger group, but the fundamentalists more self-consciously attempt to build an entire approach to the modern world based on strict fidelity to those principles, to preserve a distinctness both of doctrine and of life.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundamentalism

What unqualified bilious rot and nonsense signifying absolutely nothing! Chukcha would say, “Look and see what people want to be like. Do not listen to their words… however… see who they want to impress”. We could ask, “What circles does SVS wish to circulate in?” The answer should give us all pause for thought. SVS has no use for Lived Orthodoxy (as is manifest in its virulent Russophobia and its violent dislike of the more popular aspects of the Orthodox Revival in Russia)… rather, it wishes to be a part of the Mainstream Theological Liberal establishment… then, we should let  it do so! Only, we should pull their authorisation to act as an Orthodox institution and send them no money!

Now, you see what the “Tweedledee and Tweedledum” of the title refer to! You thought that I was referring to Meyendorff and Nassif… silly rabbit… SVS and their Modernist Protestant (and Papist) buddies… which is which? Damned if I know… What I do know is that the above proves that the lot at SVS are intellectually-dishonest to the core… any time that a Theological Liberal/Modernist uses the term “fundamentalist”, it signals a disconnect between what is said and reality. Well… you know what to do!

Keep your money in your own hands… don’t give these poseurs a dime. You dishonour Eric Iliff’s memory if you do.

Obama as the Beta Dog

This post from The American Thinker by Greg Lewis is very interesting. Obama isn’t the Alpha Male, the leader of the pack; he’s the Beta Male, who crouches and tucks his tail, letting everyone know he is not going to make any challenges.

Sounds logical to me, unfortunately; even Bill Clinton wasn’t like that. Sheesh. Is this Long National Nightmare ever going to end?

Oh, crap, we have three more years…

Kimchi Hana; A

Alas, this beacon of Korean goodness is located in NJ, USA and not in my new home of Montreal, QC. Still, if you’re ever in the area, it’s just over the Piscataway/South Plainfield border, just past the best ShopRite in NJ. Just a hop away from Rutgers, New Brunswick. They don’t advertise and it’s hidden in the far corner of a strip mall, but who care’s about the exterior when it houses such a gem inside?

This is one of the best Korean restaurants in NJ – I’m including the Fort Lee/Palisades Park area as well in that sweep. The food is exactly what one expects when one goes to a Korean bbq place. Several private tables are available behind sliding paper doors (and yes, you’re supposed to leave your shoes on the steps), a great selection of those little appetizer dishes (mook, a mung bean paste gelatin, is my favorite; hot spiced sweet potatoes are my husband’s), hot roasted tea, and hot coals inserted into the bbq grates in the middle of your table. The kimchi is fresh and the bibimbap is perfect. And yes, the japchae is steaming hot.

The waiters are all Korean, and the menu includes everything you might possibly want – including a couple of sushi options for those uninitiated in the joys of gochujang. It’s all delicious. Everything. Service and food are consistent, though we still get slightly better service when we go with a Korean than by ourselves. It’s ok – we love Kimchi Hana so much that we even had our wedding reception there. That’s right – it’s that good.

Prison Inmate Martin Armstrong's Financial Analysis...

I almost wept with joy when I clicked this link: the site of convicted fraudster and inventor of the “Pi Cycle Economic Confidence Model“, Martin Armstrong, who continues his economic forecasting, financial and geopolitical analysis from within the walls of Fort Dix, New Jersey.

He’s been producing a series of beautiful handmade essays — typed, illustrated, pasted, photocopied and released on the ‘net — at an astonishing rate since April ‘09:

An unfairly flattering rendering of Goldman
boss, Lloyd Blankfein, from Armstrong’s July 10
essay on G.S.: “The Real Deep Capture” (pdf).

Dominic Frisby, one of Britain’s leading voiceover artists, writes in Moneyweek.com (15 Apr ‘09):

Martin Armstrong’s story reads like a thriller. He was a globe-trotting and extremely contrarian investment manager, who in the late 1990s was accused of misappropriating Japanese investors of some $700 million in some kind of Ponzi scheme.

It appears that, like Nick Leeson, the money was lost on bad bets in the currency markets and losses were being concealed, though Armstrong said he did not authorise the trades. Nevertheless, he was indicted in 1999 and ordered by Judge Richard Owen to turn over gold bars and antiquities, which he is said to have bought with his firm’s money, as well as computers and documents.

Armstrong delivered four of the five computers sought, eight of the 11 requested boxes of documents and gold coins worth $1.1 million. The receiver said assets worth about $15 million were missing; Armstrong insisted that was all he had. Judge Owen – revisiting the order every 18 months – held him on contempt of court for some seven years, some kind of record for time in prison without trial. Nevertheless, Owen repeatedly held that Mr. Armstrong was motivated by greed and was awaiting his release from jail to retrieve the $15 million that the government said was missing.

Mr. Armstrong’s years in jail for civil contempt match the sentence of six-and-a-half to eight years that he would have received if he had been convicted of all 24 criminal counts of securities fraud, commodities fraud and wire fraud. But in late 2006, after appeal, Judge Owen was removed from the case. In 2007, after a period in solitary, Armstrong faced trial, pleaded guilty and is now serving a prison sentence for a further five years.

– zumindest wenn mich was “uffreescht”.

Sawubona!

It all started in Cape Town, SA. As a junior in college, I left for a semester abroad with no idea what to expect; I knew I wanted to spend time somewhere entirely new and away from the college scene but didn’t anticipate how affected I would be by the people and environment of Africa. After months spent teaching HIV/AIDS in poverty stricken townships and organizing efforts to raise awareness regarding sexual violence in townships, I returned to the states with a new found passion for economic development.

With new focus, I spent the following summer interning in the international dept of the American Red Cross. With high expectations for being intimately involved with international aid efforts, I quickly discovered that large aid organizations, despite the best of intentions, often suffer from bureaucracy and red tape. The summer ended up being a learning experience, albeit not in the way I had originally expected. Economic development seminars during my senior year of college reinforced the hard lesson I had learned the summer before: traditional aid practices were easily tainted by bureaucracy and ineffectiveness, on both the end of the recipient and the receiver.

While I knew I still wanted to affect change in the long run, my brief foray into the non profit world had emphasized that traditional non profits may not be the most effective method. Instead of continuing in the non profit world, I accepted an offer at a sales and marketing management consulting firm following college. By working in the traditional for-profit world, I hoped to gain business acumen and a tangible skill set necessary to succeed yet often lacking in traditional non profit organizations. In retrospect – now having been in consulting for two years – I have no doubt that the decision to work in business was a wise one. I’ve been able to hone my analytical skills while also gaining invaluable public speaking and client interaction skills. Unfortunately, I’ve also come to realize that the end goal of one’s work is important; knowing that I will be spending the day helping Fortune 500 companies gain market share or increase efficiency doesn’t provide much inspiration to jump out of bed every morning. While I want to leverage the skills from the business world towards a better cause, I want to be sure to do so in an effective way. Microfinance, utilizing bottom up approaches instead of the traditional top down methods, does just this by allowing those in need to help themselves towards economic stability.

Kiva is the perfect next step. A Kiva fellowship would allow me to continue working in an environment requiring independence and self motivation but with an underlying goal and mission I am passionate about. I’ve spent time learning how successful organizations operate and I am ready to leverage the skills of the business world towards creating successful microfinance partnerships and contributing to Kiva’s mission.
